Plastic Slap’s celebrated full-length LP, “This Modern Age” was recorded over a two-week period in November, 1996 at Big Fish Studios in Glendale, California.
This 12-song masterpiece (13 actually, with the hidden title track) captures Plastic Slap at the pinnacle of their signature sound with each of the song’s basic tracks recorded in one or two takes in the raucous, high-speed style of their live shows.
The band’s efficiency was driven by the fact that the studio itself was running up against the end of its lease, with the landlord preparing to demolish the studio for new industrial tenants right up until the final moments of these sessions.
The final track recorded was “Drugstore Queen.” During the song’s outro, as the last chord fades out, listeners can hear the sound of a power-drill disassembling elements of the studios rooftop.
Originally released on CD, “This Modern Age” was re-released digitally in 2019.
